I lead students to discover and engage with music through creative projects, collaboration, and performance. I teach music theory, composition/songwriting, special topics courses in rap/hip hop and film music, and direct MULTI–a multidisciplinary ensemble where students of any creative practice create and perform new pieces and installations to be presented as an ensemble. I also host the weekly radio show “Student Hours,” where students and faculty collaborate on a weekly playlist with a shared theme.

As a composer, I focus on amplifying the already existent musical components of sight, taste, touch, and smell to gain access to different modes of storytelling through music. My work revisits my rock band roots in communal music-making by creating music that interacts with different varieties of performer input through unconventional notation and co-composition. My music has been described as “theatrical,” “riveting and inventive,” and “push[ing] the idea of what music and musical organization is.” (Composer’s Toolbox)

I perform live video processing and electronics with avant-garde country band Horace Whisper & the Empty Hand as well as theatrically driven experimental music with AmiEnsemble. Recently my work has focused on creating extramusical objects to accompany my compositions such as a retro video game program note, AI-produced radio broadcast, Instagram Augmented Reality Filter, and performer-created postcards. My solo speaking double bass piece “Garrulous; Cut Up” was recently featured on “Score Follower” as a winner of their Fall 2023 Call for Works.

When not musicking, I enjoy playing basketball, struggling to find time to read, and posing as a visual artist.
